Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home to close
Apr 16, 2018Dignity Memorial, which owns and operates the funeral home, confirmed the decision this week without identifying the reason behind it.“After careful analysis and consideration, we have made the decision to close Turner Robertshaw Funeral Home, effective March 2,” the funeral home said in a statement Tuesday. “Full-time employees have been offered other positions within the company’s network and all prearranged funeral contracts with Turner Robertshaw will be honored at Clore-English Funeral Home, located at 11190 James Monroe Hwy. [in Culpeper], or any other Dignity Memorial provider.”What is now Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home began as the Scott Funeral Home in 1922, according to the history of the funeral home at dignitymemorial.com.When Warren and Louise Turner inherited the funeral home in 1966, they renamed it the Turner Funeral Home. Ten years later, Dick Robertshaw became a partner in the business, adding his name to it.Keystone America Inc. acquired the funeral home in 1998. Service Corporation International, the parent company of Dignity Memorial, acquired that company in 2010.The company owned 1,488 funeral homes and 473 cemeteries in the United States and Canada as of the end of last year, according to its quarterly earnings statement. In addition to Turner-Robertshaw and Clore-English, it owns the Lindsey and Lindsey-Kyger funeral homes in Harrisonburg and Shenandoah and Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas. (The Winchester Star)
